Short Story

The Security Guards It was a cold summer’s evening with the clouds covering the sun as Mr Thomas arrived to work with his son, Ryan. He works at the museum as a night guard and Ryan has been hounding him day after day for him to bring him along for a shift. Ryan skips as he holds his father’s hand, preparing himself for a night of fun with his father. His dad turns and warns him. “Now Ry, I’m only a night guard so you might get bored tonight but I can’t have you getting into anything because then I’ll be in trouble.” Ryan replies, “Got it dad, I don’t really mind though because I still get to spend the night with you!”  “Oh… alright then bud” says Mr Thomas, puzzled. Mr Thomas grew up with a dad that tossed him aside and only thought of him as an afterthought so he took it on himself to break this cycle and raise Ryan how he wanted to be raised, but it’s hard to deny one’s father. As they go through the doors Ryan looks around in awe. “Wow… you get this whole place to yourself ever

The case for Hope

Started a Podcast for an assignment! Hope you all enjoy it!   Hello there everyone, my name is Colin Cavanaugh and this is the morning coffee. Today we're gonna be talking about a very serious topic. Hope. Now my listeners, whom I love deeply, have always said things about me like “Colin is such an optimist”, “Colin remains unbothered by everything”, but never “Colin is the kind of person to struggle with depression”, or “Colin is the type of guy to attempt”. Now I wasn’t always like how I am right now. I used to struggle hard with my thoughts and my outlook on life. I assumed that nobody wanted me here which stemmed from my rough relationship with my father causing me to lose trust in even the person I looked up to the most. That was who I was for the longest time, a broken child with imposter syndrome. Now, however, I take each day in stride and genuinely enjoy the life I have been given. So What changed? Well in one word, “Hope” did. Hope saved me from ending my life, hope cause

Fences Inspiration

Image
The picture above is an art piece of a tree with an apple chained to the trunk, which demonstrates the relationship between a father and son in the 1950s using the metaphor: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” as inspiration. As the chain can be used as an image of protection or restraint just like a relationship with one’s father, I believe this accurately depicts these relationships, as when I was researching this topic I came across plenty of research papers and studies that showed there is a direct correlation between how a father raises a son, and the child’s mental state and future life. I created this from being inspired after reading the incredible play: Fences.      In the artifact above this relationship is demonstrated by a chain connecting the tree(father) and apple(son), which can be viewed in different ways depending on the perspective one chooses to view it with. A chain is a sequence of iron linked together forming a strong and flexible tool for connection

Prime Air?

“A future delivery system from Amazon designed to safely get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less using unmanned aerial vehicles, also called drones.” is how Amazon describes their new campaign using drones, but is it really all they say it is? Amazon has started a new campaign to use drones to ship packages to customers in shorter time than regular delivery. Amazon using drones will most likely cause other companies to start using drones as well due to competition, and eventually driver jobs and delivery jobs will become less effective than using drones and all those jobs will become useless. I, for one, believe that this plan is bad and will drive many people into unemployment and prove to be a big problem. There are good sides to this however. We will have faster delivery time on orders online, companies can reach farther distances, and it will be less expensive to employers. The future is coming and this is the start, but will Prime Air be a good thing or a bad thing, o

Googling Myself

This week I decided I wanted to do a sort of background check on myself so I looked up my name and other things about me.  When I googled myself using the recommended ways to search for yourself on Google, I did not find a lot but what I did find is scary. I did not find anything when I just searched my name except my old twitter account, my pictures, and that’s it, nothing more. Same thing when I added on the city that I lived in. When I looked up my address I found my house, which wasn’t surprising to me, but when I looked up my Email address I found my facebook and a picture that I never expected to see again. Then my phone number didn’t yield anything at all. I expected to see more stuff, but I was disappointed. However, when I searched up my parents I found nothing on my dad, to my surprise, but I found my mother’s business and a picture of her when I looked up her phone number. I’d say I’m doing fine with information privacy because there is not a lot of stuff out there on m
